The General Medical Council has published new guidance that sets out doctors’ role
and responsibilities towards children and young people. The guidance
will come into effect on 15 October 2007. All doctors have a duty to
safeguard and protect the health and well-being of children and young
people.
This joint
paper produced by the General Practitioners Committee and the
Central Consultants and Specialists Committee offers a number of
suggestions to improve two-way communication between primary and
secondary care practitioners, for the benefit of patients. (BMA

Many of you will have used the National Library for Health's CKS (Clinical
Knowledge Summaries) page http://cks.library.nhs.uk/ but did you know that
buried in the top right hand corner of the page is a link to DynaMed. This
resource is aimed at primary care staff and gives evidence based topic
summaries for a large number (3000) conditions. Each topic is broken down
into the following sections: General information (including ICD-9/-10 Codes)
Causes and risk factors Complications and associated conditions History
Physical Diagnosis Prognosis Treatment Prevention and Screening References
including Reviews and guidelines Patient information Acknowledgements As
DynaMed is American it does not necessarily point to UK national guidelines
but it is a useful additional reference tool which is freely available
to you if you are using a pc in the UK.
the SCR implementation is going to need all clinicians to be aware of IG, so this should be regarded as essential training

From 1 May 2008 the medical leadership
competency framework will be available online: www.institute.nhs.uk/mlcf.
The framework describes the leadership competencies doctors need to become
more actively involved in the planning, delivery and transformation of
health services.
The enhancing engagement in medical leadership team are working with
the General Medical Council to integrate the framework into 'Tomorrow's
Doctors' and 'Good Medical Practice'. They are also working with the
Postgraduate Medical Education
and Training Board to integrate the framework into college curricula.

enhancing engagement in medical leadership project please visit: www.institute.nhs.uk/medicalleadership
