Oxfordshire Primary Care Learning - September 2010
Essential training

Cervical smear taker updates, there is an e learning package for this, we are still looking into how this will be funded but the weblink is www.pdinet.co.uk and it is being used in NESC in Wessex we will let you know more soon
New Core Learning Unit Site

If you have previously been unable to access the CLU you will be able to now!

The CLU have now migrated their Statutory and Mandatory courses over to their new site http://nhsclu.intuition.com (previously used only for the Infection Control Programme). This is potentially a positive development; the new site is apparently more user friendly and does not need the same complex software requirements as the old one. Therefore staff in GP practices, schools and other areas previously unable to access programmes WILL now be able to.

However, things are not perfect yet:

  1. You will need to register again (unless you have completed the Infection Control programme) as the new site requires a new login and password.
  2. During the registration process you will be asked to choose a 'work area' in the PCT but the list you are asked to choose from for Oxfordshire PCT is incomplete. If your work area is not on the list please call the CLU on phone 0845 330 6507 and/or register under Oxfordshire PCT HQ

The NHS Core Learning Unit (NHS CLU) has delivered core learning programmes since October 2005 following the demise of the NHS University (NHSU).
The Unit is now a hosted organisation within the National Health Service. Programmes are funded by the Strategic Health Authority and are, as such, available free of additional charges, to NHS staff including GP's, practice nurses, healthcare assistants and practice managers.
The CLU has developed a range of e-learning and face to face learning programmes which can add real value to the learning needs of all Health and Care staff. http://www.corelearningunit.com/

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Libraries have developed online training on information, searching, appraisal and research skills. http://www.uhl-library.nhs.uk/elearning/UHLelearning.html

Hot Information Tip

Many of you will have used the National Library for Health's CKS (Clinical Knowledge Summaries) page http://cks.library.nhs.uk/ but did you know that buried in the top right hand corner of the page is a link to DynaMed. This resource is aimed at primary care staff and gives evidence based topic summaries for a large number (3000) conditions. Each topic is broken down into the following sections: General information (including ICD-9/-10 Codes) Causes and risk factors Complications and associated conditions History Physical Diagnosis Prognosis Treatment Prevention and Screening References including Reviews and guidelines Patient information Acknowledgements As DynaMed is American it does not necessarily point to UK national guidelines but it is a useful additional reference tool which is freely available to you if you are using a pc in the UK.
